Course Structure

YLPThe YLP concept is based on three pillars: leadership development; partnership; and corporate social responsibility.

These three pillars are expressed in the three modules of each programme.

Module 1: Taught Component

This intensive MBA-style interactive course immerses participants in issues that many leaders today do not come across in formal training.

GIFT Instructors engage participants to understand why key issues of the global political economy and community-level are relevant to themselves and their organisation, especially in relation to Asia.

The module challenges participants to observe and question how globalisation is affecting Asia, in positive and negative ways; and see why it is that Asia should be looked at differently.

Module 1 looks at the key challenges facing global enterprises and what is behind making business decisions in Asia. It takes a practical approach to the topics of: business ethics, governance, corporate social responsibility (CSR), diversity, role of government and civil society.

It examines what, then, it means to lead for the future in a turbulent, interconnected world.

Module 2: On-site Project

This life-changing experience, requires participants to put their Module 1 classroom energy towards working with a community and local NGO to design a plan for sustainable, socio-economic improvement –bringing real benefit.

Projects are carefully selected in areas that have a strong link to globalisation issues, and where business has the chance to make an impact.

Each project is unique in that it addresses specific themes such as; poverty alleviation, public health improvement, sustainable enterprise development, youth education, natural resource conservation, community development, and environmental management.

The aim of Module 2 is to bring sound project management principles to good deeds: requiring accountability and results from all parties. The business plan created during this module, is an expression of this.

Module 3: Implementation

This component turns ideas into action. The business plan designed in Module 2 is used to engage potential investors including sponsoring corporations in the implementation of the project.

Module 3 builds long-lasting relationships by connecting well defined, robust projects with organisations looking for worthy investment options.
